Ekow Alabi Savage



Ekow was born in the late fifties in Cape Coast Ghana and began playing drums at the tender age of five years.

After studying all types of african drums and percussion in Accra he learned to play the local highlife, calypso, jazz, soul, gospel and r&b.

Founded with friends a school band called "ANABO",working their favorite rhythms like reggae, highlife and calypso.

At the age of 16 he was "the small boy drummer", playing with the famous "SWEET BEANS BAND" in Ghana.

Played with international known african bands and musicians like Mano Dibango and Fela Kuti.

Moved to Germany in the late 70´s, playing with international known artists like George Darko and Pat Thomas.

Rejoined his old schoolboy friends to form the internationally revered band called "ROOTS ANABO" creating their own rythmical style called SUNLIFE MUSIC and toured all the famous music festivals during european summers.

In 1984 they performed at the Reggae Sunsplash Festival in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where they met Glen Browne, Ibo from THIRLD WOLRD, which led to the recording of part of their Album "CIVILIZATION" in the Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston

Joined the group "REALITY BROTHERS" where he met his current producer Tom "Serious" Lee and recorded an album and two videos.

Has played with international musicians like Ziggy Marley, Kojo Antwi and Eeka Mouse.

Recorded his first solo album "RETURN TO ZION" in Berlin, Germany and Kingston, Jamaica.

for the SHAVA label in Berlin and his own Ekowmania label in Ghana.

Back in Berlin he toured with Black Heritage, Africa Mma and Vitamin X

With Vitamin X he recorded five albums from 1990 to 2000 and toured all over Europe extensively.

Recently with Kabukabu he recorded two albums with Jimi Tenor, the Finnish jazz superstar helping him to fuse afrobeat with his jazz vision.

Additionally he has been touring with Jimi Tenor, Brothers Keepers and Bantu

But the real deal is the up and coming new album "GOING FOR GOLD!" featuring Mariamu Morris, Djatou Toure, Beezy, Aly Keita, Crimeldo and many more.

 

And this will be the next ticket to Ghana...
